University of Wolverhampton inspire Chinese teachers with highly regarded Teacher Training programme

On 17th and 18th July, Diana Bannister MBE, Assistant Director of Pedagogic Partnerships and Head of Postgraduate Taught Provision at University of Wolverhampton (UoW), delivered two taster sessions to aspiring English Language teachers in China. Diana’s sessions were an important part of a pioneering Teacher Training programme organised by New Beacon Group (NBG)’s online education partner, YLong Education in China.

Using an online Dynamic Adaptive Teaching (DAT) platform developed by YLong, Diana Bannister and English Language teachers in China shared and discussed ideas, reflecting on innovative pedagogies to improve classroom practice. The group explored effective ways in encouraging and motivating students to interact with teachers and enhance the general learning experience.

The teachers who participated in the training said they found the lessons ‘very useful’ and that they had ‘learnt a lot’ during the two-day session.

Diana’s highly popular sessions are a prelude to the exciting Beaconwood College of Global Education (BCGE) to be formally launched at Beaconwood Park by the Institute of International Education, UoW in partnership with the New Beacon Group.

Delivering Educator Training Programme via DAT System

There are approximately 100,000 foreign teachers working in China, mostly teaching English Language. However, the total demand is estimated to be around 1.1 million. Whilst the shortage of teachers is prevalent worldwide, UoW and NBG share a firm belief that working in partnership with each other through the BCGE represents an important step towards addressing the teacher shortage issue in China and elsewhere.

Building on the success of UoW’s trainee-teacher placement programme in India, UoW and NBG intend to jointly launch a similar scheme in China in the near future as one of a range of services offered by BCGE to meet the global demand for appropriately qualified teachers at all levels of education.
