Professor Richard Li-Hua

President of New Beacon Group, United Kingdom.

 

Professor Richard Li-Hua, PhD, took office in November, 2018 as the founding President of New Beacon. His vision is to establish New Beacon as a global university of the future. The institution is situated on 50 acres of a well-established garden-like campus in Stafford, United Kingdom.

 

The founding President of this future global university has an overall leadership role for creating the University with strategic and operational responsibility for the operations of the campus and Provost responsibilities, reporting to the Chairman of Governing Board of the University. The President of The University is a member of the Governing Council, who leads and takes overall responsibility for the management of the institution. The President promotes and maintains a culture of outstanding quality in all the activities of the University and is formally responsible to the Board in doing so. The Board, in setting the values and strategic direction of the University, is charged with overseeing the effective delivery of the University’s goals. The President will lead the Senior Executive Team in delivering these objectives through the day to day strategic and operational management of the University.

 

The President is the principal ambassador for the University in a range of local, regional, national, international and global fora, and is the principal accounting officer. The President leads the development of institutional regulation, policy and strategy, identification and planning, designing of new developments and sets the institutional ethos.

 

Professor Richard Li-Hua, PhD, a renowned strategy scholar and the Founder of China Embracing Innovation theory. He is well-known for his research on China’s innovation and innovation strategy. He has well-established leadership experiences in both public and private sectors of the global higher education in the UK, US and China. Furthermore, he was Chairman and Chief Executive of Henan Yuxin International Economic & Technical Cooperation Corporation before 1997 in China. He has been mainly living and working in the UK in the last 20 years. He is currently Honorary President of SIAS International University, a Sino-American university and served as President & Vice Chancellor of SIAS International University, China (2014-2017). As SIAS President, he served as Chief Executive of the University with 15 academic schools, 28,000 students and over 3,000 staff with strategic and operational responsibility for the operations of the campus and Provost responsibilities for academics and report to the Board and Chairman of the Board.

 

In short, he has successfully managed the transitions and integrations at SIAS International University:

  • The transition from a development stage to a more mature institution which is capable of achieving its long-term goals and sustainability.
  • The transition from a local university to an international university.
  • The transition from a teaching-focused to a research-informed university.
  • The transition from a monotonic income mode to a multiple revenue stream.
  • The transition from local recruitment to national, international recruitment and global engagement.
  • The integration and development of Western and Eastern management practice, theories, philosophies and culture through the Embracing Innovation theory that he has established.

 

He is also the Chairman of China Association for Management of Technology (CAMOT) founded in 2006 at Tsinghua University and Chairman of Camot Academy Cambridge, UK. He is Distinguished Visiting Professor of Strategic Management & Leadership, Penn State University, USA, Henley Business School, Reading University, UK and Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, China. He was Visiting Scholar at Judge Business School, Cambridge University, UK and is Strategic Advisor at Research Center of Technology Innovation, Tsinghua University, China.

 

The Theory of China Embracing Innovation

This Theory has been established by Professor Richard Li-Hua from a global perspective, a historical and philosophical angle and a strategic management perspective, based upon his 30 years of observation of rapid changes between East and West, his 20 years of academic research on China’s technology strategy and innovation strategy, China’s competitiveness and sustainability, so as to resolve the paradox of China’s economy with sustained, high-speed and stable development, to analyze the root of China’s social, political, economic and environmental sustainable development, and to explain the path of China’s peaceful rise and the mode of China’s innovation. He has published the book China Embracing Innovation Leads to the Future and over 20 papers on China Embracing Innovation theory (Chinese version) in Outlook China.

 

He has previously published over 100 academic papers in leading international journals and conference proceedings and 6 books in English and 3 books in Chinese, including Technology and Knowledge Transfer in China, Competitiveness of Chinese Firms: West Meets East, and China Embracing Innovation Leads to the Future.

 

China Embracing Innovation Conference (CEIC) Bournemouth

The annual conference on CEIC during the Bournemouth Air Festival every year has been built with the terminology coined by Richard in his book published in 2017, which attracts global attention with wide media coverage. Derek Borthwick, who is Mayor of Bournemouth said, “Richard has been instrumental in bringing China Embracing Innovation Conference to Bournemouth.
