Welcome from the Dean
I would like to warmly welcome you to the Beacon School of China Studies.
The New Beacon Campus’s mission is to be a globally-connected university specialising in business, management and innovation. We are specifically focussing our research and analysis on the business cultures and practices of the East and West and on developing future leaders and managers to capitalise on the enormous opportunities. Nowadays, China is the largest exporter of goods and the second largest economy in the world. By signing an all-round Strategic Co-operation Agreement with the Chinese government, the British government has committed itself to building a global, comprehensive and strategic partnership with China. Their collective aim is to develop competitive economic opportunities for the two nations underpinned by open, fair and rule-based trade and investment regimes. This emerging Sino-UK relationship is being hailed as a new “golden era”.
The New Beacon Campus (NBC) is positioning itself to be the regional centre for China studies in the Midlands, taking advantage of business opportunities brought about by both China’s “Belt and Road” strategy and the UK’s Midlands Engine initiative. With this strategic vision and ambition, NBC’s newly established School of China Studies (SCS) will strengthen and expand internationally recognised teaching, learning and research on key aspects of contemporary Chinese studies, particularly in the areas of economics, business management, leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship. We will reinforce our links with local industries, Chambers of Commerce and non-governmental organisations, mutually enhancing the global visibility and impact of the region as an educational and commercial hub.
Thank you for your interest in the Beacon School of China Studies. We look forward to collaborating with you in developing your potential in this exciting field.

In the short-term, NBC will be working closely with our strategic partner, Staffordshire University in promoting and delivering some of its existing programmes such as BA (Hons) International Relations, MA International Studies, MA International Policy and Diplomacy, MA International Relations and MSc International Business Management. At the same time, we will work with our Staffordshire colleagues in redesigning and revalidating its DBA programme with a view to delivering it as soon as possible, both in China and the UK.
In the medium-term, SCS will be collaborating with our British and Chinese partner universities to develop dual-award programmes, including MBA, EMBA and MPA.
In the long term, SCS will aim to develop our own degree programmes such as BA in China Studies, BA in Chinese Business and MA in Chinese Business Management, subject to validation by Staffordshire University.
Apart from the above academic programmes, SCS will actively develop research projects and executive training courses on the “Belt and Road” Initiative in partnership with leading Chinese and international research institutes and organisations such as the Silk Road University Alliance based in Xi’an and the Silk Road Think Tank in Beijing. SCS will host international conferences/symposiums and will publish research works by leading scholars in the field jointly with our partners.
